CityLine: May 30, 2001 -- O'Donnell's Bluff

Arlington ended the White Plains Tigers softball season Wednesday afternoon on blustery O'Donnell's Bluff, 6-1, as Tiger miscues victimized Jesse Orfe early, and Tiger bats could not come through.

With the ace southpaw Jesse Orfe in the circle, the Tigers started on a jittery note as two first inning errors set up a string of solid hits that lead to 3 unearned runs in the first before the Tigers got to bat. On the very first batter, a dropped throw at first got Arlington started. After Orfe got one out, two straight solid singles to left got Arlington on the board, an error at short loaded the bags and a towering double over the centerfielder's head plated another 2 and it was 3-0. Arlington never looked back.

Arlington added another run in the second on a walk and two singles and the Tigers were down 4-0.

The Tigers stranded 9 runners in the first 4 innings and 9 more in the last three innings, eventually losing 6-1, as the Arlington righthander stepped up the steam when she had to.

It was the end of the line for the 2001 League 1A Champions, and marked the final appearance for seniors Jamie Moricone and Laura Fixler. We will miss their heart, commitment and poise.

Galligani's baseball Tigers oust top-seeded New Rochelle then fade against Arlington, 7-6

On the hardball side, the Tigers behind Orlando Cruz's homer and three RBI's lead White Plains past top seed, New Rochelle, 5-1 Monday with Chris Herrman going all the way for the win.

On Tuesday, Arlington ended the Tigers season with a 2-run rally in the 7th, defeating the Tigers, 7-6.

The Tigers have a young club and should be stronger next season with Cruz and a crew of experienced freshman returning.
