Two veteran White Plains news reporters have signed to comment weekly on the news of the week in White Plains. on a brand new Public Access television program, White Plains Week.

White Plains CitizeNetReporter's Executive Editor, John Bailey, will host the weekly newstalk show on White Plains Issues entitled White Plains Week. The premier edition is scheduled to begin Tuesday evening, January 23, at 7 PM on Public Access Television Channel 71.

White Plains Week will feature the Editor of the Westchester County Business Journal, Alex Philippidis, seasoned reporter on White Plains and Westchester for 15 years teaming with Jim Benerofe, the Editor of Suburban Street.Com, the "Dean of White Plains Journalists," founder of the former monthly by the same name.

The show will be taped weekly on Fridays to make the commentary timely as well as informative and lively, according to Executive Producer, John Bailey.

"The mission of the show is to get reporters' inside views of what they have been reporting on each week around White Plains," Bailey said. "It allows our seasoned journalists to predict the future and give you the stories, undercurrents, and issues at play behind the events you read and hear about based on their experience. I am pleased that Mr. Philippidis and Mr. Benerofe have chosen to make this show with me. We hope to be joined in the future by Susan Elan of the Journal News and Susan Arterian Chang of White Plains Watch, who have not ruled out joining the program in the near future. I'm hopeful they will want to join the dialogue."

Philippidis, started his career as a newspaper reporter in Yorktown, moved to the Reporter Dispatch and has been editor of the Westchester County Business Journal since last Spring. He has been a reporter for 15 years.

"Alex is business news in Westchester County, and he brings a unique insider perspective on the key crosscurrents countywide and in White Plains," Bailey said of his new colleague. "While Jim Benerofe brings to the program his more than 25 years of observing White Plains politics, business and administrations. He is the Dean of Journalism in White Plains and can relate the present to the past and the past to the present. I am honored that Jim has chosen White Plains Week to make his television journalism debut. They are going to carry the show."

Benerofe, long sought after by the Public Access Channel to do a show on his own, said this appeared to be the right time.

"I accepted Mr. Bailey's invitation, because this is a critical time for White Plains, and I think the format of the show gives me a chance to say what I can't write," Benerofe said.

White Plains Week will feature a brief rundown of big news stories of the week called The Front Page followed by the reporters' "takes" on what they think the events mean for the weeks and months ahead. The program hopes to bring in guests in the future.

The first program tentatively slated for 7 PM Tuesday evening deals with what 2001 will mean for White Plains, and the second program will feature first comments on the Mayor's Environmental Protection Initiative.
