Arts Will Suffer Under Spano Budget Posted on Monday, November 18 @ 23:25:58 EST by jfbailey

Toast of the Town! WPCNR WHITE PLAINS VOICE. By Joan Charischak, Fort Hill Players. November 18, 2003: Spano has proposed a 15 % across the board cut for all arts funding. The following (abridged) message from the Westchester Arts Council explains this.

We need bodies to be counted for funding for the Arts in Westchester. You don't have to speak, but you might bring something to pass the time. If you are willing to come next Tuesday, let me know. We can meet at City Limits and go in together. Come, sit, and be counted! Tuesday 11/26 7 p.m.

Public Hearing (final), White Plains, Westchester County Center

It is a daunting task ahead of us as legislators will only restore the arts funding if they are convinced that their constituents-the people who vote them into office-want them to keep the 2003 arts allocation at the same level --$952,000 - as it is in the 2002 budget.

Our strategy is to underscore the almost 3000 jobs and $92.8 economic impact of the arts.

FYI: Fort Hill Players was a recipient of a grant that helped fund the "Free Summer Theater in the Parks" performances this past summer.
