37 WPHS Scholars Excell in Adanced Placement. Merit Achievers Announced.

WPCNR SCHOOL DAYS. From Michele Schoenfeld. October 12, 2006: Ten White Plains High School seniors have been recognized in the 2006 National Merit Scholarship Program. Mary Lau and Rose Liu were named Semifinalists and continue in the competition for Finalist status, to be announced in February. Thirty-seven White Plains High School students were named Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board, in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the 2006 college-level Advanced Placement examinations. The honorees are:
Of the approximately 1.4 million entrants, about 50,000 students qualify for recognition in the National Merit® Scholarship Program.
Commended WPHS students are: Tom Basson, Andrea Clay, Brendan Daly, Arielle Hawkins, Alyce Regan, Jacob Roby, Abigail Rudow and Akina Younge.
Three of the students were also named Semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program, which provides recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. They are: Andrea Clay, Arielle Hawkins and Akina Younge.
Students recognized for Adanced Placement exam honors must meet various criteria in terms of the number of AP exams taken and the grades on each.
Rose Liu was named AP Scholar with Distinction, with an average grade of at least 3.5 on all
AP Exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more exams. Named Scholars with Honors(3.25 average grade on all exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more exams), were: Tom Basson, Brendan Daly, John Fitzsimmons, Mary Lau, Keith Lazere, Rachel Legatt, Samuel Neubardt, Alyce Regan and Abigail Rudow.
AP Scholars, with grades of 3 or higher on three or more exams, are: Juliana Bailey, Brianna Berg, Laura Campion, Andrea Clay, Joseh Costable, Joanna Drucker, Matthew Fowler, Nicole Garrett, Susannah Genty-Waksberg, Arielle Hawkins, Sally Horowitz, Andrew Kaplan, Seth Kreilsheimer, Paul LaBarbera, Abby Levinsohn, Lauren McGuire, Ryan Morfopoulos, Roland Persaud, Daniel Podair, Joseph Pollio, Jacob Roby, Rowena Royan, Casey Schroeder, Marlies Staples, Gregory Wiener, Shanna Wiener and Akina Younge.
