WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. August 13, 2006: A reader responds to the recent criticism of Councilman Glen Hockley for criticising fellow Councilperson Rita Malmud during a televised Common Council meeting:
Response to Hockley Criticism
As a new resident of White Plains, but a follower of Westchester politics, I
have been following, with interest, the comments made by White Plains
citizens on various topics.

This is in response to Mr. Ferlauto’s criticism of Councilman Hockley’s
comments to Councilwoman Malmud. I do not know either of these people but
have been a casual but interested observer of politics for the last 10
years. I watched the televised Council meeting where Councilman Hockley
commented about Ms. Malmud’s positions. He wasn’t rude, did not raise his
voice nor did he exhibit any anger.
So what’s the problem here? Politics is not for the thin skinned. Can
Councilwoman Malmud look the TV viewer in the eye and state that her
political behavior has always been pristine? If so, she is indeed a rare
political specimen.
Councilman Hockley seems to be a man with strong opinions, one who pulls no
punches. HOW REFRESHING. While I may not, as issues arise, always agree
with him, at least I will know where he stands. If I were his colleagues on
the Council that may make me uncomfortable at times. But, so what, politics
is not for the thin skinned.
Keep stirring the pot Councilman Hockley. It makes for good political
theatre.
