WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. July 19, 2006: A reader, noting Don Hughes recent findings in his review of official Department of Environmental Conservation correspondence on the White Plains City Dump going back to 1986, is aghast:

This morning I was privileged to read Don Hughes circulating email report regarding The Gedney Way Landfill (a.k.a. City Dump). WPCNR.com, posted the pictures and a story a few weeks back with commentary from Carl Albanese.

I must tell you and all of the residents of White Plains how disgusted I am knowing that pollution and toxic chemicals were and still are being breathed by all who reside near the dump. I grew up in Colonial Corners, (Albemarle Road) went to Ridgeway Elementary School, my husband David went to Stepinac High School and to make matters worse, our youngest went to Our Lady of Sorrows School. In addition, the Corcoran Family spent many hours planning, working on and playing on the new Little League Field on Gedney Way. You can say that the Corcorans have been exposed to the pollutants in our DUMP!.

I would like the White Plains Common Council Members to address this problem and relay to the residents their plans on what is next.

The Council better stand up to the plate and tell us what the health risks are to the chemicals that we have been exposed to. And how the residents are to proceed in the future.

I am NOT very happy about this. Nor should any of the residents living anywhere within a few mile radius of the Gedney Way Landfill.
