WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. July 17, 2006: A reader says it does not matter that photograph was or was not distorted, treeline breached by skyline:
I'm reading this big fuss made of the apparent zooming of a skyline
photo by both CNR and the Mayor's office.
As a 17-year veteran of the media industry and one who works with
photography on a daily basis, I think neither CNR nor City Hall are
able to see the forest for the skyline.
The zoom factor of the skyline photo of the Ritz in question is
irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that the breach of treeline
exists no matter what the focal length or position on the street.
I can see the Empire State Building from the Tappan Zee bridge. Doesn't
matter if I'm using a zoom lens, macro lens, or standing in Fort Lee.
Neither the height nor the skyline impact of the Empire State building
will ever change.
I know trying to discredit Mr. Hacohen's photo may seem like
controversy worth of news. But only to the untrained -- and illogical.

WPCNR Notes: I must point out as originally presented, the Hacohen photograph was said to represent the view from Stratford and Longview. It did not, because he zoomed it. Mr. Hacohen had an interesting point, but he just exaggerated it. When I went to the intersection I saw no looming building on the skyline as his first photo proported. Distortion to make a point is not a good thing, would you not agree? Besides it has been a slow news week.
