WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. July 16, 2006: A reader refreshes our memories by recalling that Dennis Power was not the only Democrat to step forward to run for Mayor last June, as previously suggested by Mr. Power's former campaign manager:
I just read the article written by Dennis Power's campaign manager Paul Schwarz and I am baffled. Was there not another person that wanted to run against Mayor Delfino by the name of Ron Jackson? Also a Democratic District Leader?
According to Mr. Schwarz, " Yes, Dennis Power stepped up to the challenge of taking on the incumbent when no one else would. "
What a crock. . .Mr Power was shoved down all of our throats. Although I am a Democrat, I did vote for the incumbent.
In this city I am not sure what a democrat or republican means. It is the BEST PERSON for the job.
It was evident that The Republican was better for our city than the Democrat. As for Mr. Power's Campaign Manager, I would assume that his campaign manager would know all of the candidates that expressed a desire to run for the very same position. Perhaps it was the combination of Mr Schwarz and Mr Powers campaign that proved that we needed to have Mayor Delfino stay in office.

WPCNR Notes: Ms. Bernstein is correct. The Democratic Party announced that no one wanted to run for Mayor, and was prepared to not run a candidate against Mayor Delfino. At which point Ron Jackson, an African-American and longtime Democrat City District Leader volunteered to run. It was at that point that Mr. Power mysteriously volunteered to run. Both Mr. Jackson and Mr. Power were promised interviews by the Democratic City Committee Nominating Committee, however Mr. Power sent a letter to district leaders prior to his interview thanking them and asking them for their support in his campaign for Mayor.
