WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. July 13, 2006: A reader dissents with the Democratic Party choice of former Mayoral candidate Dennis Power as their candidate for the Common Council vacancy:
Dear John,
I urge the council to seriously reconsider having Dennis Power join them on the Common Council. As a resident, tax payer and home owner of this city, I believe that his position at the Westchester County Office of Economic Development is a conflict of interest to our city.

How will Mr. Power serve our city loyally and objectively while wearing two hats? How could he advocate for our benefit? In regards to the county owned lot and the proposed senior housing, which side would Mr. Power take? Would he attempt to fight the county and demand for the right of first refusal?
I think not! He would let the county rewrite laws and walk all over our council! It is very obvious to me that Dennis Power is solely a push over and will do everything Legislator Ryan asks of him. He is reaping the benefits because he was the only person in the Democratic Party willing to put his name on a ballot against the Mayor. The residents of White Plains voted against him but now we want to give him a seat. If he wants a council seat, he should win it! Not have it handed over to him.
Sincerely,
Jason Best
