WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. March 22, 2006: A reader checks in with disbelief that there "are no significant problems" with valet parking at the City Center:
John,
Another one that's got me steamed:
"After Traffic Commissioner Tom Soyk delivered his findings after a year of video tape observation of valet parking at the City Center, finding that Valet Parking at that location did not cause any significant problems,"
Is Tom joking? The tape doesn't show the confusion caused by a valet situation that people passing by it don't even know about until they're almost upon it, and have to get one or two lanes over very quickly?
He didn't see people clumsily backing out of the valet staging area when they suddenly realize it isn't an unloading zone to take the kiddies to the cinema?
He didn't notice the people suddenly feeling empowered to double-park because they see the valets doing it too?
And he didn't notice the knock-on effect it has on people making the turn from Mamaroneck onto Church or Main St?
Even before the valet parking mess, people seemed to have trouble following the lane markings correctly when turning from the former to the latter...
Everyone in City government seems to see dollar signs and roses. And why not? An "official" license plate exempts you from just about any parking fine and most moving violations, too...
