WPCNR MR. and Mrs. & Ms. White Plains Voice. March 21, 2006: A Bureaucracy just ready to coin money was born last night at the Common Council, when Councilman Thomas Roach strongly advanced the idea of licensing valet parking throughout the city, seeing that many maverick and gypsy valet operations had sprung up at doctor's offices, restaurants and businesses that were not approved or under control of the city.
The idea with the city facing a red hole in the budget this year, has surfaced in the nick of time.
Now, how can the city apply this idea in a positive, greenback producing way?
Mr. Roach suggested of course that each organization desiring to operate valet parking would have to apply to the city, make parking arrangements, say who will be operating the concession, etc. His suggestion was made in good faith to bring order out of the chaos of the maverick gypsy parking operations afflicting the city.
However, with any licensing operation, fees are there to be made, ladies and gentlemen! WPCNR has dreamed up some diabolic, some sensible painless "luxury" taxes for how valet parking can make money for the city (if the city is smart), in return for the establishments' right to tie up city streets with their Valet Parking operations. Check those your like, and check some more. No voting limit! The city Budget and Management Committee is already saying hallelulia!
