WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. February 16, 2006: A reader who has been following the School Budget process on WPCNR (the only media to date to cover the school budget), writes:
Dear John,
Have our city officials been wearing rose-colored glasses or blinders?
Your article about $92 million of pending Tax Certs has hit a raw nerve.
Moreover, it's troubling to observe that our School System was ignored by the Mayor's 2006 State of the City Address and by Councilwoman Malmud's comments (on behalf of he entire Council) on the State of the City. While their addresses praised the development of our Downtown, they ignored the crumbling commercial tax base which is "killing" the School System's finances.
Besides our schools, the Tax Certs have a very negative impact on the City's finances as well. -- Moody's still has the City on Negative Outlook.
When are they going to try to reverse the problem that developed during their tenure?
What ideas do they have?
How much longer do we have to wait to hear from them?
Sincerely,
John Carlson
