WPCNR MR. AND MRS. AND MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. January 22, 2006: A resident of Lake Street in White Plains makes some observations as to why White Plains Elementary School population may rising after learning of the School District demographer's report of rising elementary school enrollment predicted through 2014:
John, my theory on this is that the older apartment buildings in W.P. (both condos, coops, & rentals) are/will supply the kids. I see this in our condo. and neighborhood. In our condo, because there are "dining room areas," people make studios into 1-bdrms, 1-bdrms. into 2, and so forth.
Depending on the bylaws of the building, many apts are bought for investment and rented out. I see many kids in our bldg, whereas 20 years ago, there were very few. And, supers and particularly ethnic supers help rent out apts., and do so to their country people who are family-oriented.
The demand for housing is tremendous.
Just wanted to give you my opinion.
