Reader Comments on "Glare" of the 221 Main Glass Spires. Posted on Friday, January 13 @ 18:37:34 EST by jfbailey

Toast of the Town!

WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. January 13, 2006: A long time commentator on WPCNR expresses his concern on the "Supermodel on Main Street," with this post:

New design - never passed upon - glass towers? How about that glare!!!! No wind analysis in the FEIS - need it. New color - not red brick/stone likemost of  the rest of the conforming structures in town. Doesn't look anything like what was presented in the FEIS - what's wrong with this pic?

Where's the environmental green building design? If they have it , why not do a P.R. piece on how 221 Main will be built green? Where's the roof top rain gardens? Where's the open space promised on top? Where's that missing "green" color on the roofs of the models? And what about the migratory song birds and the mirrored glass - no analysis?

C'mon people - this building and others go up and so do your taxes at about 10% per year (school and city) - go look at the numbers . Services quality decline. We pay more for the congestion, pollution (visual as well as vehicular), we do not force "green standards" (we are SO far behind the times, it's tragic), we have no leadership and we salivate at anything Cappelli throws out to us. Now the building heights in our town are approaching 14-20 stories in marginal neighborhoods - just what we wanted, isn't it?

Are we so blind? Maybe the coming glares will be a blessing - finally burn out our vision. BTW, if the buildings produce glare, what about the liability for blinding motorists and causing accidents? Who gets sued: White Plains for being aware and on notice? Cappelli for actually creating a dangerous condition? Both? The valet services for blocking traffic lanes for commerical gain (special use and negligence)?

Could be a boon to the plaintiff's bar - I'll wear sunglasses.
