WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. December 21, 2005: A reader has second thoughts about the free meter parking in effect leading up to Christmas Day all this week in White Plains:
I never stopped being amazed at the incompetent fiscal decisions made by this administration at taxpayer's expense. Street parking is almost impossible to find in White Plains with shoppers and valet parking always looking for prime spots. Therefore free parking will neither increase shoppers or shopping. Therefore free parking will decrease money coming into the city coffers which will have to be made up by increasing taxes. The stores will do the same amount of business and the sales tax benefit will go to the State and the County-------at the city taxpayer's expense. Good thinking. Open up your own business.
