Reader Brings Up Happy Hour Points Posted on Sunday, December 11 @ 09:05:50 EST by jfbailey

Toast of the Town!

WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. December 11, 2005: A reader brings up an interesting point about the fatal hit and run accident last week at North Broadway and Franklin:

Scene of the fatal hit & run accident: Franklin Avenue and  Westchester Avenue-North Broadway. There is no crosswalk. No crossing signal. Kevin Morgan of White Plains was killed at this scene December 1 by a car driven by a 24 year old woman who has been charged with vehicular manslaughter in the second degree, Driving While Intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. She faces a possible sentence of up to seven years in prison if convicted. Photo, WPCNR News.

Several of your readers seem intent on making political hay out of last week’s pedestrian death on Westchester Avenue.

One of the more intriguing suggestions was to erect “Quiet Zone” signs throughout the neighborhoods. I’m not sure what that would accomplish, except waste taxpayer dollars.

Inebriated bar patrons walking home would immediately hush up upon seeing these signs? There are two large signs telling pedestrians not to cross at Westchester and Franklin, but the other day I watched a woman run across it pushing a stroller.

The last reader attempted to connect “Happy Hour” on Broadway and the tragic consequence, which I assume was the death of Kevin Morgan. Are the facts of this case public knowledge? Was the alleged driver served during happy hour at a WP establishment that evening?
