WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. December 3, 2005: A WPCNR notes the Starbucks Free Parking Promotion and urges more of the same:
Mr. Bailey,
In response to the One day of free parking in White Plains, This short PR stunt by the mayor will not bring more shoppers into downtown White Plains to benefit the stores. Our caroling Mayor should give up the eggnog, and instead go to work at his desk devising ways to support the residents of this city who work in offices during the day, and have only evenings and weekends to spend in the core area.
The village of Mt. Kisco, is providing free parking at all one-, two- and four-hour meters from Dec. 12 through Dec. 30. I would prefer to tour 20 minutes away, and enjoy shopping at the many small business that the village offers. Anyone ever go to Heller's Shoes? We have nothing in our city that comes close. White Plains has pushed the small business owner out of the city, and I am finding those missing desirable shops in Rye, Mt. Kisco, and the River Towns where the tree line is higher than the brick line.
