WPCNR BUMPER TO BUMPER REPORT. By Aaron Woodin. November 11, 2005: My primary reason for voting for Dennis Power was his promise to curb the hamfisted enforcement of White Plains parking regulations that makes placing your car on city streets a roll of the dice (or perhaps more accurately, a "rigged casino.")
I am sincere about starting a grassroots movement to reform our great City's parking practices
It's simple - just visit the site, www.reformwpparking.com, and click on the email link to send me a note. You can leave the body of the email blank, or fill it in with a "horror" story about parking here in the City. I plan to make an impression by collecting a stack of printed emails for presentation to the Mayor and Council.
I'd also like to remind your readers that you can fight these tickets and win - even if a "win" means simply getting a reduced, not dismissed ticket.
The site is a bit rudimentary, but improvements are on the way...
Citizens of White Plains! You are just a cash register to your city government!
This site was created by Aaron Woodin, lifelong resident of White Plains.
My mission, and the site's mission: to stop this city from balancing its books
on the backs of hardworking residents and visitors of White Plains.
Every email sent to reform@reformwpparking.com will be printed and presented, in paper form
as a petition to our current city government. The petition will ask for the following:
1. Reduce the on-street overtime rate from $15.00 to $10.00
2. Repeal the 9:00 PM on-street meter requirement back to 6:00 PM
3. Limit the number of overtime violations a handicapped parker may receive to one per day
4. Require acceptance of personal checks at the main city court payment window -
if payers can remit a check via mail, why is the service window different?
5. Stop "chalking" of cars - if someone is putting money in that meter, why penalize them
or force them to move to a different spot? This is a definite "gotcha" for anyone
who has to perform any sort of service work or extended shopping in our downtown.
WE THE CITIZENS OF WHITE PLAINS ARE SICK OF THE EXCESSIVE FINES
AND OVERZEALOUS ENFORCEMENT! IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!
Note: WPCNR has reprinted the message of Mr. Woodin's site in this column.
