WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. NOVEMBER 10, 2005: A reader writes disputing the "sanitary nature of the Delfino Campaign:
Some facts for your dreamweaving readers implying Mayor Delfino's campaign was totally positive & peachy, and that the Dennis Power campaign was anything otherwise.
Is calling resident concerns "minutiae" as Delfino did in the LWV Debate their view of "positive campaigning?" Is calling our elections "Silly Season" positive?'
Is a Delfino mailing that looks like it was covered in excrement "positive?" (You know, the mailer which was an obvious ploy to frame the other (Power) campaign as 'lying' but could not cough up any specific claims except "call us and we'll tell you privately...")
GIve us a break. Geez, White House-style spin truly has reached White Plains.
Let's talk about some of Mayor Delfino's supposedly "clean" campaign claims.
The mayor said: "I just got my first raise in 8 years."
Fact: The mayor got 4 raises totaling almost 16% since 1998 making him the third highest paid elected
official in Westchester County.
The mayor said: "A residential parking decal would be illegal."
Fact: It is not. Cities such as Yonkers are implementing plans similar to what Mr. Power
suggested for White Plains.
The mayor said: "We have 5,000 new jobs."
Fact: We have 12,000 fewer jobs than we had in 1990.
The mayor said: "Property taxes among lowest in Westchester County."
Fact: Property taxes have increased almost 41% since 2000.
I guess, as it seems in the rest of the country today, it's a crime to question leadership. No matter how rosey a picture they're painting for you.
