WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. November 8, 2005: A writer makes his choice and talks about choice:
I just got back from the polls and voted for Dennis Power to be our new
Mayor, and many others from my district were there doing the same. Here's
why I want him as mayor, and why I see this will be a reality at 9pm
tonight:
I love White Plains. I've lived here for 34 years and even moved back after
living in two other major cities that underwent revitalization, Orlando and
Baltimore. I've lived in downtown White Plains almost all my life and care
about this city deeply.
I'm an officer of my co-op board and also run my own business here at our
city's center. I've been here long enough to know that if you don't look at
the big picture, you're making a grave mistake in the direction of a city.
Dennis Power has proven to me he has that big picture in mind. He not only
wants to give us residents the attention we really need (such as with
parking, traffic and noise pollution downtown) but also has the financial
know-how to make sure we can benefit --and build on steady foundations.
He believes in quality development. While Mayor Delfino bent over as
Wal-Mart marched into town, Dennis was key in developing the Westchester
Mall. Now that's an achievement. That's an asset to our city. I'm tired of
the ugly architecture and distasteful workmanship we've been getting under
the current administration.
I'm going to put Power's plans for tax relief and fiscal responsibility
aside-- thatıs a given for everyone who's making him their choice for Mayor.
Dennis Power has a sincere passion for White Plains and knows that
"revitalization" doesn't just mean a fountain and a Starbucks. It means
allowing the residents to have input in the city they're paying (rising)
taxes to.
Dennis Power faces reality. Then solves it. He's done so in his duties for
decades.
I love White Plains too much to see it succumb to the rose-colored glasses
Mayor Delfino is wearing. We've seen the proof. Downtown is in the hands of
developers only, who want to use White Plains as an income treasure chest,
and Joseph Delfino is giving it to them.
I'm tired of always coming last when outsiders are involved. Residents
getting the worst permit parking spaces. Tons of tickets. Two supermarkets
built where outside shoppers go, but none in my neighborhood that are
walking distance for the hundreds of grandmothers on my street.
I'm tired of city leadership taking me for a fool.
Our President and national leadership is doing it. And I won't have that in
my neighborhood. Period.
People who love and care for their city keep up on the issues and act as its
guardian. There are many of us out here, and we're all going to be very
happy tomorrow to see a new Mayor in town with Dennis Power.

Voter Two
Mr. Bailey,
I met Dennis Power for the first time at the White Plains Train Station last week in the morning, and again a few nights later at Stop and Shop, I had opportunity to grab his ear.
The parking situation at the train station for commuters is tight, and parking in downtown sends me to Central Avenue for all of my shopping. Dennis Power understands that my tax dollars were used to build a parking garage to benefit the City Center, and he understands that the local residents are being blinded by Mayor Delfinos fancy expensive brochures..
After Dennis told me about the senior citizen housing the Mayor isn't endorsing for us, I decided to give Dennis Power my vote. New bars and 5 star restaurants aren't helping me the taxpayer. My taxes have gone up with the new revenue the city has generated for the developers. Target is suing Capelli for poor workmanship and rain falling into their store.
I blame Joe Delfino for bringing to White Plains poor quality development, raising my taxes, and ruining all residents' quality of life. I didn't even go on about the school system and how my neighbors move out of White Plains once their children are at elementary school age. Dennis Power is the only choice today.
