Response to: A reader tries to make it clear why the city is sailing rough financial waters.
Come on Mr. John Bailey, you’re always looking to publish readers letters, well publish mine; I publicly take accountability for them and sign my name to them.
You know Mr. Bailey, I sign on to your site and during this entire political week, one week before the election, you seem to selectively publish anti Delfino administration public letters. I’m disappointed in what I perceive as biased. Publish all opinions from all perspectives. I’m not in the Delfino camp and I’m not in the Powers camp either. I’m an Independent Voter that believes in fairness and balance.

The public and your followers seem to ignore the fact that the Delfino administration is primarily a Democratic Party administration. That administration voted and approved all that has developed in White Plains, especially the financial management of the city. I don’t see your so called experts like former Mayors Del Vecchio and Schulman, or experts John Carlson or Joseph Manzini Sr. bashing them or holding them responsible as everyone quotes “giving our city away to developers.”
So who really gave it away, one incumbent Mayor or the voting majority of the Democratic Common Council?
Stop the nonsense already, all your writers use this fear factor of look what’s wrong with White Plains, look what Mayor Delfino did, well look back and remember what really was wrong with White Plains before Mayor Delfino devoted his time and his vision collectively with the efforts Common Council to fix the past problems. How about giving the city, city government, the Common Council and Mayor Delfino a few more years to complete a great job.
Then one can judge the success or failure of city government and not continuously point the finger at just one leader; it’s a leadership effort of all elected representatives in city government. Unfortunately no one has enough courage to put his or her name to it all just prior to the election, except one person Mayor Joe Delfino!
Let the rest step up to the plate and swing the bat like Delfino has, home run for Joe!
A new reader of yours, Bryant Austin responds to former Mayor Del Vecchio’s comment on his support for present city management and would like to know what his neighbors are thinking in White Plains. Mr. Bryant here is a small history from a fifteen-year resident living through the last three administrations in White Plains.
The Ex-Mayor’s have stated recently that they back Power, not Delfino. They have stated, “ Ex-mayors are united by their dislike for Mayor Joseph Delfino’s policies.” Let’s inform the voters of facts, truths and fabrications. This is a thinly camouflaged attempt by Ex-mayors Del Vecchio and Schulman and their citizen’s camp to regain their lost power in City Hall through Mayoral candidate Dennis Power. Mr. Power states, “if elected Del Vecchio and Schulman would lead a citizens advisory committee on the financial management of White Plains and watch over me.”
Well, who will watch over all three of them, who will really be managing and leading the city, Del Vecchio and Schulman again, do we need to regress! After their two administrations, Mayor Delfino inherited an economically ravaged city, 34% office vacancy rate, major losses of jobs and businesses, decreased citizen populations, demise of the downtown business district, and a very visible crime element.
Let us not forget the hole in the ground that past administrations dug us into and could never dig us out of. Mayor Delfino through the partnership of the Democratic Council dug us out of a city going deep into the ground fast! Mayor Delfino achieved what no other leader could, a nationally award-winning revitalized city, a model of excellence. We are proud citizens of Delfino’s achievements as our leader with a vision and a plan for the future. The Ex-Mayors and Mr. Power need to let go of their ax to grind.
I would rather have Mayor Delfino watch over our city and me. I agree with you Mr. Bryant most of the voters and citizens are in favor of what Mayor Delfino has accomplished. On November 8th you will see that support for our Mayor.
