WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. October 29, 2005: Another view of the Battle Hill Debate from a person who disagrees with questions being limited to Battle Hill residents:
When your reader states that the Battle Hill candidate's forum on Wednesday
could have spun out of control "without such rules," what rules is he
talking about anyway? Instead of "rules" I think he means "bias."
The forum was a joke of epic proportions. The moderator kicked it off with a
speech which was an obvious endorsement of Mayor Delfino. She snidely ended
her introduction of the candidates with, "Mr. Power(s) and Mr. Carlson, wish
I knew more about you." A moderator of the largest debate yet couldn't have
read either of these men's bios in advance?
Aside from the fact that both moderators were in Mayor Delfino's lap (almost
literally), when Dems spoke there was an eagle eye on the clock. When Mayor
Delfino spoke, there was no clock.
The restriction of questions was only the tip of the iceberg (aside from 1
or 2 obvious Delfino plants. If your reader is scared the debate could have
"lost control," he should ask why exactly would that ever happen?
Hmmm? Maybe because Delfino is such an disrespectful Mayor that he faces a
very angry constituency?
The Battle Hill debate wasn't a forum. It was a Republican-style forum.
Where your "loyalty affadavits" were signed well for you in advance. As
Mayor Delfino clearly lost the previous two debates, it was the typical Repub
game -- if you won't win, manipulate and change the whole game to your
favor.
