WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. October 26, 2005: A reader who criticised the Power Campaign for lack of focus on issues within the last two weeks, says little has changed:
Aside from saying "residents come first" and
portraying Joe Delfino as noting more than an
uncaring, unresponsive friend of the corporations,
what can we expect from Dennis Power? I am still not
convinced why my party, the Democratic Party, would
allow our Chairperson to merely throw a softball at
Dennis rather than ask the Mayoral candidates real
issues facing the citizens of White Plains?
The questions posed at the Highlands forum (which was
poorly organized with no water or adequate seating and
had absolutely no flow to it) lacked depth, and
appeared to be constructed to disparage the Mayor and
sitting Council. We need real issues to be discussed,
not the current rhetoric being spouted that relate to
personality and the complaints of a few local
gadflies, who, to be fair, admitted that they received
a response from the Mayor they just didn't like how it
was phrased. Thankfully Tom Roach and Rita Malmud
showed why they are a real asset to the people of
White Plains.
I was really hoping that despite having an inferior
candidate for Mayor, my party would step up and get
organized, and rally around issues. Disappointingly,
the current leadership passed over another opportunity
to enhance the political discourse and instead chose
to resort to a campaign about "minutiae". This reminds
me of a Seinfeld episode, only not as funny. I for one
am truly disappointed. And it begs the question: Why
Dennis Power and not Mr. Ron Jackson?
