WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. October 19, 2005: A reader noting the latest poll, makes some traffic priority suggestions:
Dear Mr. Bailey,
Your present poll does not allow for respondents to check off combinations of items. For example, a combination of rumble strips and free standing may produce more careful driving for fewer dollars than increasing police presence (there are a finite number of police) or installing cameras at traffic lights. In fact, the best way to conduct this type of poll is to first do a story on the principle causes of accidents in White Plains, and then relate the choices in the polls to the causes of the accidents.
Also, I think that the police presence on Mamaroneck Avenue between Ridgeway and Old Mamaroneck Road is much greater than along Ridgeway from North Street to Old Mamaroneck Road. Yet, there are more "shrines" to fatal accidents along Ridgeway than along Mamaroneck Avenue. Perhaps police presence can be redeployed from Mamaroneck Avenue to Ridgeway. Alternately, Ridgeway can become the first street with rumble strips and speed display signs.
