WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. October 10, 2005: A self-described longtime Democrat writes WPCNR about the lackluster Democratic Campaign to unseat Mayor Joseph Delfino. His comments:
John,
After reading the October 1 piece “Candidates spar
over development” and reviewing the Dennis Power
campaign platform, I have to say I was truly
disappointed that he offered no real solutions or
alternatives to the issues he declared problems. His
major complaint was about a lack of open government. I
have attended past council meetings, and watch them
religiously from my home. I believe that White Plains
resident reactions to projects and development have
been solicited under the current Mayor and Council.

As a lifelong Democrat, I am disappointed that my
party has chosen to offer up a clearly unqualified
candidate, solely for the sake of running someone
against Joe Delfino. Who is Dennis Power, and where
did he come from? He has done nothing for White Plains
since walking away from the Common Council in 1992. I
have never seen him speaking pro or con about any new
development project in the downtown area. Not at
Common Council meetings, community events, or anywhere
else. The first thing we hear about his policies and
vision for the future is a platform dedicated to
creating review committees and blue ribbon panels?
Shouldn’t Mr. Power have already reviewed this
information, and formulated a plan of action BEFORE
running for Mayor?
I chose White Plains because the taxes are low, the
quality of restaurants and shopping centers has
increased, and this is a safe community to raise a
family. Dennis Power provided me with none of those
things, which is why he will not be getting my vote on
November 8th.
