WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. August 23, 2005: Mayor Alfred Del Vecchio has read the recent John Carlson commentaries and the responses to them and asks the city to clear the financial smog from the city skyline, created by the city policy of inconsistent financial reporting.
John,
How can a critique about a critical analysis of the city of White Plains fiscal and financial conditions be credible if the writer of the critique is anonymous? Something to hide or just a plain coward?
I found John Carlson's analysis interesting and worthy of a legitimate response by a responsible person in city government. In the interest of your readers, I think you should prompt city government to respond.
John is a candidate for public office with a point of view, right or wrong. By a public post he is inviting a challenge. What better way to arrive at a decision about which candidate can better serve the citizens of White Plains than engaging in a public debate, written or oral, with all candidates for office. Why not send Carlson's comments to all candidates, including the mayor, and invite them to participate. Let's take a small step toward the truth about White Plain's financial condition.
Apparently not only John Carlson but Moodys as well as other financial institutions are taking a critical look at White Plains. By promoting a responsible exchange of information you would be doing the city a much needed and, so far, neglected service. Keep up the good work.
Alfred Del Vecchio
former mayor, White Plains
