WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. August 9, 2005: Former Mayor of White Plains, Alfred Del Vecchio, notes with interest the Commissioner of Building's strong statement that plastic pipe would violate the new city plumbing code if used at 221 Main Street. Del Vecchio writes:
John,
In spite of commissioner Gismondi's assertion in your report that it would be a violation of the building code for Mr Cappelli to use plastic pipe in his six floor (7 story) hotel, it is easy enough to resolve this issue by Mr. Gismondi writing an official letter now to Mr Cappelli and the mayor and council stating that the use of plastic pipe in his hotel would be a violation of the building code. You could publish the letter and dispel any doubts about the veracity of the assertion.
Absent such a letter now, the August 4-5 council meeting with the 5 minute (1/2 hour) recess was a charade and an exercise in futility.
Let us try to penetrate the darkness of deceit and come up with the truth. We can't wait 12 months and hear, "Gee, we made a mistake, we didn't think they could use plastic pipe"--which, by that time, everyone will have forgotten about and we would have lived through another lie.
I, for one, will send you a letter when I see his letter printed. His letter will certainly be official and binding on the council.
Alfred Del Vecchio
