WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. August 4, 2005: A reader sends along a brief comment on the White Plains Performing Arts Center situation as it begins its third season:
The White Plains Performing Arts Center is not suffering from a poor image that can be mended by the hiring of a professional huckster. Its main deficiency is the consistently poor programming caused by a lack of therecognition of the fine efforts of the Purchase Performing Arts Center, Westport Playhouse and our proximity to New York's wonderful thriving theatre scene.
Our gem of a theatre organization, the efforts of the citizenry has produced a unique opportunity to niche the entertainment market rather than present unimaginative programming, uniformed presentations, all combined with a poor public perception.
The evidence is shown by the attendance figures and the unenthusiastic reception for many of the productions.
We cannot wait for the remainder of our downtown to fill with additional paying customers. We must act now to avoid further deterioration of the sincerity of our mission ot produce a first-rate performing arts center in our city.
