At last night's Common Council meeting the Council gave approval for issuing another $1.9 million of permanent long-term debt. Now the City's debt totals a whopping $78 million.
What did they say about this debt increase during the meeting? The answer is nothing.
This debt increase was tucked into the "consent agenda". A technique used so that debt increase was not publicly mentioned during the Council meeting.
Well, here's what they could have said:
"The City's debt per household will rise $100 to $3,900 per household."
As a candidate for Common Council I believe the citizens of White Plains deserve at least a "heads up" before the City dips its hand into our pockets.
Also, isn't it time for the Common Council to become less "creative" hiding the facts and more "creative" managing the City's purse strings?
Sincerely,
John Carlson
PS - John, the agenda items were #33 and #47.
