Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The IMAX Experience ’Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ is a tale about an eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka, and Charlie, a good-hearted boy from a poor family who lives in the shadow of Wonka’s extraordinary factory. Long isolated from his own family, Wonka launches a worldwide contest to select an heir to his candy empire. Five lucky children, including Charlie, draw golden tickets from Wonka chocolate bars and win a guided tour of the legendary candy-making facility that no outsider has seen in fifteen years. (PG ) Dark Water Dahlia Williams is starting a new life; newly separated with a new job and a new apartment, she’s determined to put her relationship with her estranged husband behind her and devote herself to raising her daughter, Ceci. But when the strained separation disintegrates into a bitter custody battle, her situation takes a turn for the worse. Her new apartment -- dilapidated, cramped, and worn--seems to take on a life of its own. (PG-13) Wedding Crashers A pair of divorce mediators spends their weekends crashing weddings in a search for Ms. Right? for a night. But, when one of them falls for the engaged daughter of an influential and eccentric politician at the social event of the year, they get roped into spending a wild weekend at the family’s palatial waterfront estate and quickly find themselves in over their heads. Bad News Bears Morris Buttermaker, a former pro baseball player, was ejected from the game for attacking an umpire and now works as an exterminator. More interested in boozing and broads than baseball, Buttermaker is lured back into the game by Liz Whitewood, an attorney whose class action suit has forced the Little League to accept all players, regardless of their abilities. As the new coach of the Bears, the most losing team in Little League history, Buttermaker has his work cut out for him. (PG-13) Hustle & Flow DJay, a streetwise Memphis hustler tries to find a voice and realize his long-buried dreams. Though DJay has always had a way with words, that gift has long been misused; this philosopher-hustler lives a dead-end life at the fringes of society. Anything more feels out of reach. (R ) March of the Penguins (La Marche de L’Empereur) Emperor penguins overcome daunting obstacles in order to return to their breeding grounds for mating season. This tells the story of one year in the life of a flock -- focusing on one couple in particular -- as they trek across the Antarctic on an annual journey that invokes just about every major life experience: from birth to death, from dating to mating, from comedy to tragedy, and from love to fighting for survival. (G ) The Devil’s Rejects Ambushed at their isolated home by Sheriff Wydell and a squad of armed men, the Firefly family wakes up one morning with guns blazing -- yet only Otis and his sister, Baby, manage to escape the barrage of bullets unharmed. Hiding out in a backwater motel, the wanted siblings wait to rendezvous with their errant father, Captain Spaulding, killing whoever happens to stand in their way. But as the body count mounts higher, Sheriff Wydell decides to take the law into his own hands. (R ) The Island Lincoln Six-Echo is a resident of a seemingly utopian but contained facility in the mid-21st century. Like all of the inhabitants of this carefully controlled environment, Lincoln hopes to be chosen to go to the "The Island" -- reportedly the last uncontaminated spot on the planet -- until he makes a terrible discovery that everything about his existence is a lie and that he is actually more valuable dead than alive. Together with a beautiful fellow resident named Jordan Two-Delta, Lincoln makes a daring escape to the outside world he’s never known. (PG-13) |
