WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. July 6, 2005: A reader observes on the security status of White Plains Municipal Garages.
John,
I'd like to weigh in on this.
I find it so ironic that there's a committee forming to discuss how to enhance parking lot
security.
Ironic because municipal lots require payment 24 hours a day, but obviously aren't patrolled
with any reasonable thoroughness (except to collect ticket revenue). Where's the value given for the money? They even close down escalators and elevators on holidays and shut off many of the lights, but still require payment! Where's the fairness in that?
(Dan Seidel, are you listening to this one? Do we fall out of ADA compliance when we shut down elevators in our parking structures?).
No committees or discussions are needed.
Despite this one unfortunate killing, White Plains is a safe, low-crime city. It's compact and easy to patrol.
It shouldn't even need discussion to have officers include all municipal garages in their patrol routine.
We easily have enough "manpower" to do this.
Adam
