WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. June 29, 2005: The former Mayor of White Plains, Alfred Del Vecchio, continues his point on the survey of the nation's most expensive cities in which to live:
Dear John,
For WP Citizen's edification, the Mercer cost-of-living survey rating WP as the 45th most expensive city to live in out of 144 cities surveyed was based on a detailed 20-page questionnaire covering items such as the cost of rent of a two-bedroom luxury apartment and a cup of coffee including service, in each city. As such, it was a valid survey.
Also, when you compare the 4.72% cost-of-living increase in WP with the 4% increase in police and fire salaries, the survey most certainly can be linked and there is nothing "disingenuous" about it. It merely brings out the indisputable fact that the salary increase for police and fire were not compatible with the cost-of-living increase in WP and they cannot afford to live here. That's the simple fact and the simple truth, not very hard to understand. Q.E.D.
