WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. JUNE 24, 2005: A writer responds to a former Mayor's commentary on White Plains being the 45th Most Expensive City to live in the country:
Why does Mr. Delvecchio's letter open with White Plains being the 45th most expensive place to live in, when in reality the survey speaks of cities? Does anyone actually believe Scarsdale and Bedford are cheaper places to live?
I would bet good money that this Mercer survey takes into account available housing stocks in White Plains. The luxury rentals that are available at Clayton, Bank Street and City Center drive up the Mercer calculation. Mr. DelVecchio's attempt to link this Mercer survey to the Police and Fire contracts is more than a bit disingenuous, unless of course Mercer Human Resources enjoys both unions as clients.
New York is arguably the most expensive state to live in, and White Plains is now the most desirable city in NY closest to Manhattan. This desirability was mentioned in a NY Times article over the weekend, where WP was mentioned as a "once sleepy city".
