Permit Spaces Being Taken Away On New Shapham Place Lot? Posted on Wednesday, May 11 @ 19:25:45 EDT by jfbailey

Toast of the Town! WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. May 11, 2005, UPDATED May 13, 12:20 A.M. E.D.T.. : A reader in the Shapham Place neighborhood notices that permit spaces are being replaced by parking meters in the newly finished Shapham Place Lot, much to his chagrin. He notes that permit spaces were taken away when the lot on Shapham Place where permit parking overnight was removed with the opening of the Shapham lot. WPCNR confirms that permit parkers may park in the metered spaces at any time of day, according to parking signs posted there.

Hi John.  I live in the Old Mamaroneck Rd neighborhood.  I was pleased when the City finished the new Shapham Place Lot, as the residents of the neighborhood are in dire need of additional over night parking.  The City then ended its lease on the large lot across the street, which was being used for permit parking.

This move reduced the number of permit spots available, but since the entire level of the new Shapham Place lot was being used for permit parking, I was not overly concerned.

However, when I left for work this morning, I noticed that regulation signs were being posted and that half of the spots in the new Shapham Place lot are being converted to metered spaces.

There are already a large number of metered spaces in the old Shapham place lot that sit empty, particularly at night.  Given your extensive contact with various City officials, I was hoping that you would you be able to get to the bottom of how they plan on making up for these lost permit spaces.  Thanks and keep up the good work.

Tom

Comment:
I park in the same lot, and noticed the same thing this morning.  However, the new lot is for BOTH metered and permit parking.  Permit holders can still park in the metered spots.

The CitizeNetReporter Replies: On  Drive Through Inspection of the Shapham Place Upper Deck, WPCNR confirms the comment from the second commentator,  that signs say metered spaces may also be used by "Permit Parkers," at any time of day or night, since no time limits are posted as to when the spaces are not available to Permit Parkers.
