Reader Comments on Photo Size on WPCNR Posted on Friday, May 06 @ 01:20:03 EDT by jfbailey

Toast of the Town! WPCNR MR. & MRS. & MS. WHITE PLAINS VOICE. May 6, 2005: A reader of WPCNR has sent in a comment on the size of photographs pixel dimensions used on WPCNR. WPCNR usually puts up 500 x 300 pixel photographs for detail. Readers should let us know if the following reader's comments are the same as they are experiencing. Should I go to the dimensions our reader suggests? The comment:

John,

As a resident, I enjoy checking the local news on your site. Thanks for your work.

I would like to request one thing. If possible, please do not include large hi-resolution photos on the Advantgo PDA  page. It makes downloading to the PDA a very long process and the photos will be down-graded in terms of size and resolution by the PDA anyway.

I downloaded all links  from the main page including the "International Food" and the "Capelli Subcontracts" stories with the photos and the download came to 1.2MB. Most other PDA sites are around 100K in size so you can see how this would slow the process. I can turn off "photo download" from my end but It's likely others are experiencing the same. Also, I would like to view the pictures associated with the stories.

It would be helpful if you could reduce the photo-file size by reducing the resolution, image quality, or both. Full screen on newer PDAs is 320 x 320 but it certainly is not necessary to display photos on the full screen. Most PDA-friendly sites limit photos to postage stamp size or even smaller.

Thanks again and keep up the good work. I've learned more about White Plains from your source than any other available to me.

Mike

The CitizeNetReporter replies: I will be checking with our Technical Producer to see how this can be accommodated.
