WPCNR WHITE PLAINS VOICE. January 1, 2004: Bob Petrucci, long time Voice of Golf in Westchester County advances a scathing indictment of county recreation policy and chides Legislator Bill Ryan for removing Rob Astorino as Chair of the County Legislator Parks Committee for Mr. Astorino's questioning Playland maintenance expenses and keeping them from coming to a vote on the Board of Legislators floor. Petrucci takes the opportunity to question Ryan's oversight of the county golf situation and cost overruns on the Hudson Hills golf project, followed by failure to hit predicted Hudson Hills round goals.
To CL Bill Ryan, BOL Chair
Shame on you. That does not give our party (Democrat) a good image.
Didn't you and others repeatedly do the same exact thing with the motion to rescind the Friday Weekend (Golf) Fee ...over and over and over again...continuing that senior discrimination for about a year and a half?
And what was that again about the pot and the kettle?
What's more you say, "Rob Astorino would let his own political agenda ..... thwart the will of his committee and deny legislators their right to decide issues through their votes," Ryan said in a statement he e-mailed to news organizations. "This approach does not serve the public interest and I won't tolerate it from any of my committee chairs."
You left out something which you consider minor...the "will" or want of the people and your own constituents. Would you like to hear what some of them think on this issue?
And by the way, "thanks" for that golfer meeting that you promised...and gave your word on, in writing...that you would have with our golfers in the latter part of last year...and never had.
Meanwhile, throughout this entire county golf mess (fiscal and otherwise), you say nothing...through a near 90,000 rounds loss in recent years, a poor golf product value (90-100 different fee increases), Hudson Hills being concessionized (and failing, achieving only 30,000 of the project's original 46,000 rounds for approval), CSEA union-busting, the refusal in not having the state-required Hudson Hills voter referendum (check with the state people) with total, costs of nearly $20 milion, then the "garbage" and concessionizing of MapleMoor, the county's refusal to enact the $600 Season Pass, the parks dept (after again losing money) getting raises...and on and on and on. And you say nothing?
So, re Astorino's action, to paraphrase, "We think you doth protest too much".
