Reader Says Mayor Pressures Common Council to Rubber Stamp Renewal Posted on Saturday, October 02 @ 09:57:15 EDT by jfbailey

Toast of the Town! WPCNR WHITE PLAINS VOICE. October 3, 2004: A reader writes that on the eve of the vote on the site plan renewal, Mayor Joseph Duietly lobbying the Common Council for the renewal:

Even though he has enough votes so the NYPH's request for an annual renewal will pass on Oct 4, the Mayor does not like to take chances. I know that he has had Bernstein and Roach come in to his offices separately so Sue Habel could brainwash them.  He may have asked in others.

One of the things that's so disturbing about this is that NYPH has the Mayor in its back pocket and the Mayor has shown his ability to micro-manage the CC. This indicates that NYPH will probably get approval for commercial developmeent in the northern end of its property even though the Comprehensive Plan says there shall be no commercial development east of Bloomingdale Road.

I don't think the  facility up for renewal will ever be built.  The proton beam accelertor is technologically obsolete and NYPH does not have the $265 million. But they might get what they really want -- for profit commercial development.
