WPCNR WHITE PLAINS VOICE. July 28, 2004: The unannounced construction project of rewiring the feeder cables on Soundview Avenue in swing for about three weeks prompts this comment from a resident:

THE VIEW ON SOUNDVIEW AND COOLIDGE THURSDAY. Con Edision trucks continue to work on replacing faulty feeder cable. Work has been going on for about four weeks. Photo by WPCNR News.
I am a resident of 61 Soundview Avenue. I read your story about the feeder problem at the other end of Soundview (I live 2 blocks up from route 22 Post Rd).
Con Ed has basically taken up residence on our front lawn. It turns out that the burnt out feeder problem was NOT located at the original site you reported about, but near the corner of Sterling and Soundview. Already 3 public relations officials from Con Ed have come around to reassure us and our neighbors that the problem is not a safety issue and that any property damage we have sustained will be repaired.
This is NOT a convenient situation. 24 hour round the clock construction kept many of us awake over the weekend (hammering, sawing, jack hammers etc), and the road closure causes many inconveniences. No detour signs have been posted. At one point there were over 20 vehicles of varying types and around 40-50 workers.
I would be interested to see an update to your original story posted if possible. Con Ed has built several large sheds over the construction area and it looks like the problem will take weeks to solve, and from what I have heard, it is a temporary splice. A permanent replacement to the entire run on Soundview must be installed later, and who knows how long that will take or what inconvenience or problems will result.
Thanks.

Editor's Note: WPCNR is awaiting Con Edison's explanation of what caused the feeder cable burnouts. The cable was reported to be being examined by the Con Edison lab in The Bronx.
