Movie fans may also order advance tickets for SpiderMan II, which premiers at the City Center De Lux June 29. The Chronicles of Riddock, The Stepford Wives and Garfield are this week's new shows. Here is the week's schedule, and remember, folks, 2 asterisks means the movie is playing in the slightly more expensive, upscale, toney Director's Hall.
THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK -- The adventures of Riddick continue in this sequel to Pitch Black. For the last five years, Riddick has been on the move eluding mercenaries. The fugitive finds himself on Helion, a planet led by the tyrannical Lord Marshal, where he is exiled to a subterranean prison. There he encounters Kyra, the lone survivor from an earlier chapter in his life. In his efforts to free himself and Kyra, Riddick is led to the command ship, where he is pitted against Lord Marshal in an apocalyptic battle. Vin Diesel reprises his role of enigmatic anti-hero Richard B. Riddick in this sci-fi action epic, which also stars Thandie Newton and Colm Feore. Rated PG13.
THE STEPFORD WIVES -- Joanna and Walter Eberhart are a modern couple who leave their hectic Manhattan lives behind and move to the upper-class suburb of Stepford, Connecticut. Joanna soon befriends Bobbie Markowitz, a writer with an irreverent sense of humor. Joanna and Bobbie become suspicious of the more than perfect wives who reside in Stepford and discover the men in their town are replacing their wives with compliant look-a-like robots. Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler, Jon Lovitz, Christopher Walken and Glenn Close star in this sophisticated comedy/thriller. Rated PG13
GARFIELD: The Movie -- When a dog named Odie is brought home, Garfield the cat is forced to compete with him for the affection and attention of their owner, Jon Arbuckle - much to Garfield's disgust. However, when Odie is kidnapped by a mean dog trainer, Garfield feels responsible, so he gets off his favorite spot and gets into action to rescue his fellow pet in crisis. Bill Murray provides the voice of Garfield in this fun family comedy, which also stars Breckin Meyer and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Rated PG
