A reader raises questions he feels Lewis Trippett needs to answer after Mr. Trippett's extensive comments on Dr. Saul Yanofsky's departure that Mr. Trippett delivered Monday evening:

Mr. Trippett quotes from a letter purportedly sent by Dr. Yanofsky. Can we see the letter also?

Quotes from unseen documents frequently are taken out of context and used for personal agenda. To what end was the letter written and speech made? Is there a hidden agenda of the retired board member?

Did he (Trippett )violate any provisions of law or violate ethics by publishing what apparently the Board and Dr. Yanofsky agreed to keep silent? Even in retirement, doesn't confidentiality apply if there was agreement to such, as we have been led to believe?

Why has Mr. Trippett chosen to make comments that can be seen as damaging the Supt.'s career in the eyes of the public and prospective employers?

I am responding to your faxed request of December 11, 2001, regarding a copy of Dr. Yanofsky's letter to the Board of Education. Board Counsel advises us that this is an intra-agency document and therefore not available under the Freedom of Information Law.
