WPCNR SCREEN GEMS. By Mr. Sunset Boulevard. February 16, 2004: The new movie sensation in the cineplexes this weekend is Lost in Translation, the first time flicker written and directed by Sofia Coppola, and that has turned Bill Murray into the best manifestations of middle aged angst since Kirk Douglas in The Arrangement, and Gregory Peck in The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. Lost in Translation is turning Hollywood, Ebert and Roenel, the New York Times and the film critics heads. It has been nominated by the Motion Picture Academy of Arts and Sciences for Best Picture. It's a whallapaloosa.
Lost in Translation has one incredible creative breakthrough. In the movie, Bill Murray says some unintelligible words into nubile costart Scarlett's ear. You can't hear it or make it out. For those of you who have seen the movie, we have listed some lines lifted from writer Sofia Coppola's waste basket containing her thrown out lines. We have listed some of these lines at the right.
This immortal scene, destined to go down with some great final scenes like Casablanca, and Gone With the Wind, has created the new buzz: the mumbled dialogue.
If you saw the movie, what do you think Bill Murray said? Choose the line you would have picked in the survey at the right. Or, send Mr. Boulevard your suggestions at wpcnr@aol.com.
